With reference to my Confidential despatch

of the 27th July, I have the honour to enclose a copy of a letter from the Honoureble Mr. Lau Chu-pak the senior Chinese member of the Legislative Council in which he gives an account of a public meeting of Chinese held on the 30th July to discuss the "mui tsai" question.

Cuttings of the Hongkong Daily Press of the

1st and 2nd August referred to in Mr. Lau's letter are also

enclosed.
